My journey at National Chiao Tung University
NCTU
EECS
EECS is an international program that supports scholarship
for international students from many countries in the world.
Pic 1. A gathering party with professor Ying-Dar Lin
It is a good
chance for us to join NCTU to study, to communicate and share our knowledge and
experiences. I made friends with a lot of people with the same interests and
concerns, even though, we come from Southest Asia, India, France, Germany, Italy… The most inspire thing is that we always help each other and collaborate in study and
in life. Time flies so fast. It
has been nearly two years since I decided to come to Taiwan to continue my
education in the EECS program at the National Chiao Tung University. For some semesters
of the program, I took various required courses, all of which were challenging,
but also interesting, especially Machine Learning, Cloud Computing and Big Data
Analysist . Through this course, I learn a lot from Data-driven systems and
techniques. Professors always motivate us to investigate deeper and deeper the
idea behind these techniques through final projects. ECCS also enables us to
gather during semester: before mid-term, end-semester, and end year gathering
with very warm and exciting parties. The study in EECS program is truly
inspiring because I can meet a number of great people. Through the program I
learned a lot of good things because EECS is also a place to link and exchange
the experiences of alumni and students in their studies as well as their
working experiences.
Statues in NCTU campus
In NCTU campus has a lot of spiritual statues. It could be
diversified from very historical to very modern. This is the first one I want
to mention. It is the symbol of NCTU, it remind me to the root of NCTU at the beginning
is to encourage the transportation of the country. And the Chinese character飲水思源implies ”we should have gratitude”
and very similar to idoms: “Uống nước nhớ nguồn” in Vietnamese.
The sun clock
The statue is located in front of NCTU Library. It seems to
be very abstract. I always try to figure out what is it about without reading the
explanation however its always wrong. Is it the moon?
The next one is very easy to understand. It is a spring
which is located nearby mechanical engineering building.
The bird statues is in front of CS building.
Another bird in a very creative figure.
It can be seen the red phoenix in Library.
The other thing is very interesting. It looks
like a mobius leaf.
This statue is also in front of CS building.
The statue at NCTU is very artistic and modern, which is
always the highlight of the campus. These statues are also beautiful when
illuminated at night.
Open House the warm up meeting between people
Open house at NCTU is the big even to link between industry
and potential employees from NCTU and NTHU.
The major scientific park
enterprises that participated in the invitation were semiconductor companies, software
design, system design. Open House is taken twice a year that has a lot of
activities such as presentation about companies, the conversation and interview
between participants and employers, the connection between NCTU alumni and
fresh graduate students. I find this even is extremely useful for students to get
a jobs right after they graduate as well as narrow down the gap between
academic and industry. The procedure is very easy and quick to make a small
talk at this even. We can meet and have conversation with interested employers,
then filling in some form to indicate more information about ourselves.
After
that we can have an appointment for some rounds of interview. If we are
appropriate to the needed position, we can get the job.
Boai Campus NCTU:
I choose to live in Boai campus NCTU from the first year.
I
chose to live in Boai from the beginning. Even from Boai to NCTU, it is quite
far away, but there is a regular shuttle bus. The distance from the school to
the residency is more interesting than staying in school because I can know
more about the roads in Hsinchu. Boai campus is closer to the center of Hsinchu
than Kuangfu campus and nearby has 18 peaks. The atmosphere is very fresh and
the space is very quiet, which is one of the main reason many students choose
to stay in Boai Campus. During summer or winter break, local students will return
to their families for rest. International students either go home or stay and
visit places. Boai campus was the main campus of NCTU before being transferred
to Kuangfu campus. We live in a dormitory for international students, everyone
goes to the reading room or walks outside the campus. Sometimes we organize
table games under the basement.
Boai campus also has a large yard for sports like football,
basketball. We play football together on Sunday. Around the Boai Campus there
are many good restaurants, including the Vietnamese restaurants are very
convenient.
NCTU club
At NCTU there are many clubs and
can be divided into groups such as Recreational clubs, Technics & art
clubs, Senior high alumni clubs, Social service clubs, Sports clubs, Academic
clubs, Musical / Drama clubs, Commission clubs, Student self-governing bodies.
We can choose a lot of clubs. I
see many active and exciting clubs. Club activities can take place at the Student
activity center. We can find the student activity center right behind the
school library. There is a small bookstore on the third floor with all the
necessary textbooks as well as the sale of school supplies and souvenirs. This
place is practice areas for students such as dance, swordplay, billard, or
music. I and some friends have joined the billiards club, we practice together.
I play very bad but it is really interesting. Also, I am a fan of the badminton
club.
Badminton also has many Vietnamese students participate. We occasionally
organize badminton tournaments among Vietnamese students together and with
Vietnamese students studying in Tsinghua university.
